The student union (Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss –AStA) at the University of Applied Sciences Aachen (FH Aachen) is your advocacy group at university level.

We constantly strive to improve the conditions of our students’ studies. In addition to our versatile services, our information meetings and cultural events, you’ll get the latest news about student life and the university itself.

The AStA is elected by the Student Parliament (Studierendenparlament -SP). The SP is the students’ highest decision making body and is elected by all matriculated students of the FH once a year.

This way it is us, the students, who ensure that we can manage our affairs on our own and that we can deal with our members’ concerns at the University as well as in society. The AStA represents the students, executes the SP’s resolutions and handles the business of the student’s administration. Furthermore, the AStA represents the entire student body before court. It also represents domestic interests of the students towards the university’s administration and its departments, in addition to that it represents the external student’s interests towards all other institutions (for example: public affairs, press and student bodies from other universities).

On top of that we have to manage academic tasks by releasing official statements dealing with questions concerning academic policies.

Based on the constitutional order we also have the commission to foster political education, political sense of responsibility and the willingness of our members to carry out active tolerance. The AStA supports (logistically and/or financially) student projects and initiatives as well.

If you have read this far and still have questions, we would suggest reading the Universtiy Law (HG) NRW ab § 72 or the statutes of the FH Aachen’s student body.

But the best thing would be you just drop by at our office!
