The Academic Politics committee is constantly striving to improve the conditions of our students’ studies. That’s why we represent the students’ interests within the different types of committees at university. We also have many contacts outside from university.
Since the AStA’s political attitude is rather neutral, we only vouch for student’s body interests and not a particular political side or party.
We always try to keep close contact to our students in order to be able to react quickly to any kind of issue, be it a nuisance or an exemplary good situation. This is done by keeping in touch with the different departments within the FH Aachen, since it is them who find out about any drawbacks first. We also encourage students to use the message board more often to address and discuss political issues and make suggestions to improve academic politics.
We are supported by other student unions from other universities, by the ministry of innovation, science, research and technology as well as by the different parties sitting in the parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW-Landtag).
We keep in touch with other student unions by the state student union meetings (Landes-Asten-Treffen- LAT) which take place about once a month. The LAT develops a common position to all kind of topics, most of the time related to university. The LAT also provides a platform to exchange information between the different student unions (www.latnrw.de)
Furthermore, we are a member of the national “union of student unions” (freier Zusammenschluss von StudentInnenschaften – fsz, www.fsz.de).
We appear in many committees, such as the Student Council committee, the senate, the senate commission and the structural commission. If we do not attend a specific committee we are trying to contact its student representatives.
Right now, our main focus lies on counselling students for tuition fees and the changeover of our higher education sector from diploma to bachelor and master; the so called “Bologna Process”.
